Dear Data Values Digest Subscribers,
Since the Digest launched in 2021 we have shared over 80 pieces promoting debate and highlighting the incredible ideas and projects from across the development sector working to create a fairer data future. From how older women are missing in data to how we are facing a new age of digital feudalism in farming, we are hugely proud of the pieces we have shared and our small role in promoting the crucial work of this community. We have been blown away by the amazing efforts being taken to ensure data is more inclusive, representative, accountable, and enables more people to engage in its creation and use.
We are happy to say that over the past 4 years, the topic of data, with considerations to fairness and equity, have become more prominent. Governments across the world are engaging with questions of responsible AI, and many multilateral institutions are working on developing norms and guidance on digital rights and data.
The work of achieving the aspirations of the Data Values Manifesto is certainly not done, and shifting political landscapes are throwing up new challenges. But, over this time, the work of the Data Values Project has evolved too, from our beginnings as a community-driven campaign, we are now focusing more on implementing the ideas championed in the Data Values Manifesto. This continues through the Data Values Advocates program, as well as the upcoming launch of the Data Values Starter Pack, a set of tools that any organization can use to operationalize the five points in the Data Values Manifesto.
To reflect these changes, our last Digest was the final publication on Substack, however we will continue to share fantastic stories from the Data Values community on the Global Partnership blog and on the Data Values website. And to make sure you don’t miss anything, we would love to have you subscribe to our monthly Global Partnership newsletter. If you have been inspired by the pieces here and would like to write something for the Global Partnership blog on Data Values please do reach out to datavalues@data4sdgs.org with your pitch.
Thank you for reading the Data Values Digest over the past four years and we look forward to continuing sharing them with you.
